Missouri 2009 Archery Season - Opening Week
Posted by Darrell under: Whitetail Deer; Private Ranch - Missouri.
Missouri archery season opened on September 15, 2009. I hunted the opening week pretty hard. The deer were quite elusive and I was unable to pattern them. I ended up seeing only about a dozen deer or so during the week. This was about 100 deer short of what I’m used to!
There were 5 of us […]

Congrats Thad and Jeff on your Texas Bucks!
Posted by Darrell under: Whitetail Deer.
Thad and Jeff (my good friends) both took nice bucks over the Thanksgiving holiday. They were hunting near Austin, Texas where Thad lives. This was Jeff’s first buck and his first archery deer! Thad is a relatively new hunter, but he has become a hunting machine. Congrats guys!
Boy, I wish I could have been there with […]

My Dad Bags His First Archery Deer of 2008
Posted by Darrell under: Whitetail Deer.
My dad took his first deer of 2008 last week. Congrats to him! When I was younger, my dad was addicted to archery hunting. This was in the early days of compound bows and dad just loved them. At this time, over 20 years ago, I was an avid traditional archery fan and he was really […]

The Hunters (Including Me) Are In The Woods!
Posted by Darrell under: Whitetail Deer.
I’ve received a couple emails lately asking where I’ve been. Apparently, a few people have noticed that I’ve missed a few days posting on the ole blog lately and I haven’t been commenting near as much on the blogs of my outdoor blogging buddies.
The reason for all this is simple. I’ve been hunting. It is deer […]

Venison in The Freezer! and My Game Log
Posted by Darrell under: Whitetail Deer; Game Log.
Well, the meat isn’t in the freezer yet, but it will be by tomorrow afternoon.
I got my first deer of the 2007 season! It isn’t a giant buck, but I won’t care while I’m eating it. I let several does walk before (for some odd and unexplainable reason) deciding to shoot this one. She offered […]

My Friend Mike’s Buck
Posted by Darrell under: Whitetail Deer; Hunting Stories.
While I was traipsing around Colorado, looking for elk while trying to climb out of holes, my friends Mike and Matt were back home taking advantage of Missouri’s opening weekend of archery whitetail deer season. Mike spent opening weekend hunting out at Matt’s and it paid off nicely. Him and his Mathews Switchback hooked up to […]

Attacked By A Buck That Didn’t Even Wipe
Posted by Darrell under: Whitetail Deer.
I read a story (that Rex suggested) entitled Never Rope a Deer and found myself laughing and remembering my own close encounter with an enraged deer. My story took place when I was just barely 16, but I remember it like yesterday.
I had driven out to this spot a couple miles from camp and about a 1/4 […]

Arrow Energy to take down a Whitetail
Posted by Darrell under: Whitetail Deer.
A few days ago I was in an archery shop and was able to shoot my bow to find out what my arrow speed is. I was dissapointed to find out my arrow speed was only 257 fps. Advertised speed was 310. I soon learned that advertised speed and actual speeds are greatly different. Advertised […]
