How to Check a Firearm at the Airport
Posted by Darrell under: Gun; Planning a Trip .
I’ll admit that I was nervous about checking my firearm at the airport. What if there was a problem? What would I do then?
I arrived 2 hours before my flight to make sure I had plenty of time to deal with any problems that might arise. I told the lady at the United desk that I had a firearm in one of my bags. Just saying this made me nervous. What if she hit a panic button and I was swarmed by a bunch of over-eager TSA agents?
She said “no problem, I’ll just have a TSA agent come up front and approve it”. She made a phone call and just a couple of minutes later an agent showed up. He asked me to open the case. I did and showed him my bow and my handgun. I had to sign an orange ticket that verified that my gun was unloaded and place that on the very top of the inside of the case. He said “Ok, you can close and lock it now”.
That was it. It was easy and it took less than 5 minutes!

Wow! That’s amazing, I would of guessed that there would of been more of a hazzle.
