checkmark.jpgHave you have already done steps 1, 2, and 3? Step 1 was defining your specific needs. Step 2 was beginning your search. Step 3 was asking the right questions.

So, you’ve found an outfitter that looks like they meet your needs. He has the right answers and his website is awesome. You are ready to send the check. WAIT! Not so fast. You still really need to check this outfitters references. And don’t just talk to clients that were successful, talk to some unsuccessful ones too. You might have to ask for these as some outfitters only provide their most successful clients with the best trophies. If they balk about giving you others,  you’ve just learned something important.

I’d consider asking the following questions of each client you call:

1. What did you think of this operation, overall?
2. What did you like about it?
3. What did you not like about it?
4. Would you book again with this guide/outfitter?

Their answers will tell you a lot and should help you make the right decision. Just remember - their specific needs might be different than yours.
