May 21, 2007 - 6 Days to Alaska
Posted by Darrell under: Alaska; My Journal .
What I did Today to Prepare
- On the way to the office, I stopped by a local camera store and purchased a cheap travel tripod for the video camera and an extra battery for my Leupold RX-II rangefinder.
- On my way home from work I stopped by the bow shop where I had my bow re-strung last week and had cat whiskers put on. I then shot a little in the indoor range. I’m still tired from shooting about 450-500 times over the weekend trying to get my new site sighted in and to get comfortable with it.
- After my daughter’s fourth grade farewell picnic, I hightailed it to Bass Pro (they stay open until 10pm on weekdays) and purchased a couple of the last things I need for the trip. I purchased a couple light weight and compact sleeping bags (most outifitters want you to bring your own), a mossy oak camo long sleeve under armour shirt (in case I need to strip down to it while on a stalk), and a pair of North Face Gore-tex tennis shoes (I’ll wear these while stalking). So, $175 later I finally felt like I had all my gear.
Tomorrow, I hope to have time for some shooting . It is supposed to be raining, which will mess up my opportunity to shoot any distance (indoor ranges locally are 20-25 yds max). I could shoot in the rain, but don’t want to risk getting sick before I leave.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
