May 18, 2007 - 9 Days to Alaska
Posted by Darrell under: Alaska; My Journal .
What I Did Today To Prepare:
I picked up my bow from the bow shop. It has fresh string and cat whiskers. I put on a new Extreme site. I like the larger pins, so I bought a 4 pin and added a fifth. I also had a new biscuit put on since my old one was about blown out from shooting 40-50 times per day. I also made a list of hunting gear (minus clothes) that I will be taking with me and that can be packed in my suitcase and bow case:
Here is my hunting gear packing list:
• Taurus 444 .44 Magnum
• Shoulder Holster for .44
• XP-35 Compound Bow (freshly tuned from bow shop)
• 100 Grain Moultec G5 Broadheads x 6
• 9 Redhead 250 Carbon Arrows
• 100 Grain Practice Points
• Allen Wrench for bow adjustments
• Buck lock blade hunting knife
• Wind powder
• Detachable 6 Arrow Quiver
• Where to Shoot A Bear Diagram
• Large Waterproof Bag w/Shoulder Straps for packing out meat
• Sunglasses
• Playing Cards
• Belt (I rarely wear one)
• Waterproof Gloves for both Caleb and I
• Camo Face Mask
• Camo Bug Full Face Mask/Hat
• Warm Camo Hat
• Binocular Shoulder Strap
• Travel Tripod
• Bow Sling
• 2 Lightweight sleeping bags
Over the next few days I will make a comprehensive list of clothing needed and what I will need to purchase once I arrive. I’ll finish packing and have everything packed and completely ready to go (except my bow which I will be shooting every single day). I still need to buy a lightweight travel tripod for my camcorder and for my binoculars, a bow sling, and binocular shoulder strap – Bass Pro here I come!
