Oklahoma Spring Pigs With a Bow

Posted by Darrell under: Archery .

After Spring Turkey season ends there isn’t much hunting until the Fall - unless you happen to fortunate enough to live somewhere that has a Spring Bear season OR close to some wild pigs.

Several of us took a day recently to stalk some pigs with our bows. There were10 guys and we took 23 pigs! All with bows! I was fortunate enough to take 3 pigs, so I’ll have plenty of pork to eat for the next few months (or at least next few weeks).

If you’ve never been pig hunting, I highly recommend it. My friends and I all stalk hunt them. They have an incredible sense of smell so if you work together you can use that to your advantage. They also have great hearing so you have to be quiet - unless you are intentionally trying to drive them towards your much quieter friends. Their eyesight isn’t so great. If you are still - I’ve had them run by me within 5 feet.

I’ve been able to sneak up on them while they are bedded down. They like to burrow down into the brush and leaves - so you’ve got to be alert. If you relish the feeling of having a rabbit, a pheasant, or quail bust up as you almost step on them - just imagine what its like to almost step on a 100+ pound wild boar!

There is nothing better than spending a day in the field hunting a crafty animal with 9 of your friends!

That looks like fun! And good times with friends is what it’s all about!

One of my buddies just recently went on a pig hunt and shot a nice boar. They are trying to convince me to go next February. I might just have to consider it.

Here in British Columbia we’re a bit spoilt with hunting choices in the spring with bear and turkey. Unfortunately we have no hogs and yet next to deer and turkey they are my favorite bowhunting species.

I am very jealous! Aside from the great catch it seems as you guys had an amazing time!

@ Vohringer

British Columbia is a great place to hunt but the lack of pig is very dissapointing
