Picture of My First Missouri Whitetail Buck Deer of 2007

On Saturday morning I took my first whitetail buck of 2007. I hope it isn’t my last! He is a pretty 8 point. He came by the stand I was hunting in hot pursuit of a doe that was just about 30 yards in front of him. He was moving at a pretty decent clip, so I whistled to get him to stop.

He stopped and gave me a great broadside shot at about 45 yards. I shot him with my Remington 710 30.06.  It is amazing that I’ve been bow hunting a lot for the past two weeks and haven’t had a shot at a buck and then on opening morning of rifle season I get a shot opportunity that I could have easily made with a bow!

I’m not complaining! It is just amazing that you never can even guess what might happen while you are hunting. So, anyway, I took this buck on Saturday morning and then on Sunday morning got to see a black bear. How could you ask for anything more?

Congratulations! Great buck! You’ve had quite a good fall now with your birds and your buck! How do you like the 710?

Thanks for the congrats!

Bryan, I really like my 710. It shoots great and is inexpensive (I paid $275 for it complete with a bushnell scope at a local gun show) so I don’t spend any time worrying about it. I’d prefer less trigger pull, but I shoot it fine the way it came stock. After sighting it in after buying it several years ago, I’ve never even had to adjust the scope and I can assure you that I’ve put it through the ringer. I shoot it a few times before season to make sure it is on (and it has been every single year) and then clean it once after the season. It is a simple, no nonsense, no frills, great shooting gun which I’m extremely happy with.

Great buck! Now you have backstraps to go with your wild turkey breasts… quite a fall you are having.

Thanks all! Phil, you get 1 buck tag for firearms season and you can buy as many doe tags as you like at $7 each. You also get 2 buck tags for archery season, with the caveat that only one can be used prior to firearms season. So, you have the opportunity (or potential) to tag up to 3 bucks per year!
