20 Minutes To Shoot My Limit! Spearfishing on Bull Shoals Lake

Last weekend I was on the lake (Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas) along with 90% of the rest of America. I had planned to be under the lake instead of up top, but I had a bit of congestion and my friend Jeff had a lot of congestion. We did one dive on Saturday and took 3 nice cats. Not bad for less than an hours work.
On Sunday we spent several hours hillbilly surfing. Then Jeff left for home and I decided to dive on my own. Jeff was too congested to dive. Too bad for Jeff. I had my best day ever! On just one dive I got my limit (in less than 20 minutes), plus I saw at least 20 more shootable catfish. The fish I took were NICE as you can see below.
The spot I dove was a new spot for me and it was unmarked. There were no corp signs indicating fish habitat (Bull Shoals lake has fish markers everywhere). So, my guess is that this particular spot is seldom dived and apparently the fish know it.
I will admit that I basked in the glory of being ‘the man’ at the fish cleaning station on Sunday night. I can’t wait to hit that spot again!

Nice cats!!! I’d love to give a hand at spearing someday…sounds like an awesome sport!

Arthur, it is nice to be first. It won’t last long though as I’ve got several friends just chomping at the bit to visit that spot.
Thanks Michele. It means a lot coming from someone that I view as a fishing professional.
Bryan, as soon as your out of school you are going to have to give spearfishing a shot. I’m suggesting waiting until you are finished because it is highly addictive (and thus time consuming). There isn’t any other sport quite like it.
