Breaking Away From Civilization

Today is a beautiful day in the Ozarks. Sunny blue skies, 85 degrees, and a slight breeze. It would seem like the perfect day to drive the ole Jeep into work. Wrong. I’ve found myself surrounded by people all day long.
I’ve been honked at, flipped off, and yelled at. I spent an hour of torture at the license bureau, waiting for over an hour, only to find that I didn’t have all the documents needed to get my vehicle licensed. It all culminated at Quiznos of all places.
I was in line behind some guy that refused to give his order. “I’m not giving you my order until you’ve finished the orders of everyone in front of me!” This crazy guy wouldn’t let the girl work on his sandwich if she was multi-tasking on anyone elses sandwich. I watched and listened to him argue with the girl (who was just trying to take his order) for several minutes. Then I heard someone politely, but quite forcibly, tell him to either give the girl his order or get his butt out of line.
When I realized that I recognized that polite, yet forceful, voice and that it in fact belonged to me, I decided that I probably needed a break from “Civilization”.
Normally, I would head for the woods. Any people that I might run into in the woods are generally my kind of people. If they aren’t, I don’t worry too much as I’m generally heavily armed and only a real nut case would mess with me.
I already have plans for this weekend and they don’t involve the woods. It seems I’m headed for the lake. At certain times the lake is a really peaceful place to be. Holiday weekends wouldn’t appear to be one of those peaceful times. However, I’m not worried. Where I’m going - there aren’t any (or at least ‘many’) people.
I’ll be spending much of my time UNDER the water. I’ve found that time spent under water is as peaceful as time spent in the woods. There simply isn’t any ‘civilization’ in the woods or under the water.
