Apply Now: Wyoming Preference Points for Antelope, Deer, Elk, Moose, & Bighorn Sheep
Posted by Darrell under: Tips & Ideas .
You thought all the preference point application periods were over for 2007 - didn’t you? Wrong! Right now is the time to apply for Wyoming preference points. Well, I wouldn’t call it applying - just buying ‘em.
You have until September 30 to purchase your Wyoming preference points for: Antelope, Deer, Elk, Moose, and Bighorn sheep.
I just purchased all of the above and am now $295 poorer. Here is the NON-resident fee breakdown for each preference point:
-
Antelope: $30
-
Deer: $40
-
Elk: $50
-
Moose: $75
-
Bighorn Sheep: $100
You can buy your points online from the Wyoming Game & Fish Department.
From what I can tell, it appears that you would need about 7 or more points to draw a decent moose tag and at least 10 points to draw any Big Horn Sheep tag. It looks like 1 or more preference point puts you in pretty good position on deer, antelope, and elk - if you are just wanting to go to Wyoming to hunt and are’t worried about being in a ‘trophy’ unit.

Those sure are some great prices for hunting in Wyoming. I hunt deer at www.peartreegameranch.com in Texas. I hope to hunt Wyoming someday.
