Illinois Fishermen Catches Huge Flathead Catfish - Too Bad
Posted by Darrell under: In The News .
Yes, I said too bad. I read this story in the daily chronicle and it just irritated me. An Illinois man fishing on Coffeen Lake in May caught a 35-45 lb flathead catfish while bass fishing. The thing that irritated me about the story is that he didn’t seem too excited about it. The story includes comments such as “can’t stand catfish” and ”Any fish that when you pull it in the boat it makes noise, I’m not a big fan of.”
If I had caught this fish, I’d treasure the memory until the day I died. In fact, one of my fondest memories is when my grandfather caught a 45lb yellow cat on a trotline. I was no older than 10 at the time and will never forget how every single member of my family was just giddy with excitement over his catch.
This fisherman, instead, will tell the story of how a 45lb flathead messed up his bass fishing. Maybe I’m just weird, but I love catching fish - any fish. I have my favorites, of course, but am thrilled with an unexpected catch. I can’t say that I hate any fish.

I totally agree with you. Maybe its because when WE catch a nice fish, it’s personal triumph. Especially if it’s big and deep, or in a deep cave. For him it wasn’t any effort at all.

I hate those stupid asain flying carp that are infesting the mississippi and ill rivers. One about 12 lbs jumped in the boat and knocked my 8 year old out of his seat!!!! He now puts on his motorcycle helment when we get near them.
