Outdoor Posts of Note - July 6 to 8, 2007

Posted by Darrell under: Blog Posts of Note .

I was out playing all weekend and never had a chance to check my favorite outdoor blogs. So, if you, too, were out playing, here are a few posts you don’t want to miss:

Steve Remington, of Skinny Moose Media fame, put togehter a great post entitled The Agony of Producing Blog Posts Day In and Day Out. This article is so good, my only regret is that I didn’t write it. If you are a blogger, or are thinking about becoming one, this article is a MUST read!

Cliff posted a guide to field dressing on his Hunting Sense blog. If you are new to hunting, you should give it a read. If you are an experienced hunter, you, too, should read it and see if you pick up any tips that might make your field dressing cleaner and easier.

Kevin Paulson posted a list of “Great Outdoor Blogs” on his Hunting Life site. It is a great list and I was thrilled to be included with so many other great sites. Check out his list and the many great blogs he linked to. Don’t forget, his new site launches Friday the 13th - talk about a confident guy!

Kristine posted an article about Safe Hiking, which includes some helpful information for anyone that enjoys hitting the trails. It seems like I’m always including something Kristine has written, but she writes really helpful stuff.

Jon Bryan put up a great post about surviving a “Chubasco” . If you don’t know what a Chubasco is (like me) you’ll find this post interesting. Does anyone else experience problems when they try to post comments on Jon’s blog? I have trouble getting past the spam prevention image. Anyone else have this problem?

On Saturday, Othmar released the preliminary results of his crossbow hunting poll. I won’t spoil it by giving up the results, but will admit that they suprised me. Also, check out his post about OSHA gun control . There have been a lot of posts about this issue this week. Jon BryanKevin Paulson  (and I’m sure many others) have also wrote about it. Moose stated that he would be stocking up just in case. Not a bad idea.

On the Shed Antler we find pics of Robert Cline’s 106 sheds from this season. That is a dedicated shed hunter!

On the rack tracker blog there is an interesting interview of Trevon Stoltzfus on how to make the outdoors a career? Every hunter or fisherman dreams of hunting and/or fishing for a living. Apparently, it doesn’t have to be just a dream.

Every day I miss some outstanding outdoor posts that should be recommended for reading. If you come across a ‘fresh’ one that is great, please email it to me. Thanks.

Between you and Steve you’re creating a great education tool for people who want to learn to be bloggers. I hope you both keep writing these kinds of posts. They’re very helpful.

I’ve also had problems trying to post comments on John’s blog. Don’t know what the deal is there, but I’ve given up a few times. Probably should have let him know about that, but I’ve always had other things to do. Are you going to drop him a line and let him know?

Thanks for including me in your post round-up again. I always try to write helpful, or at least interesting stuff. It’s nice to know that someone else finds it helpful as well.

Good roundup and thanks for the link Darrell. I have found that articles about field dressing deer is something I am interested in. You can see how people mainly do it the same but there are slight variations.

Kristine, thanks for the confirm on Jon’s blog. I’ll contact him. Thanks, too, for the kudos. It is MUCH appreciated.

Steve, even though I’ve field dressed many-a-deer, I always enjoy these posts. I often learn something new.

Thanks for yet another mention and link to my blog. I appreciate that very much. A note to field dressing deer. My hunting buddies where all stunned when they first saw that it takes me only ten minutes to completely field dress and skin a deer. I never told them that I grew up in a meat packer family slaughtering goats and lambs since the “tender” age of eleven. I got a lot of invitations to go hunting and I have a sneaking suspicion it was in the hope that I would field dress the deer for them.:)

Othmar, thanks for writing such great posts. Ten minutes to field dress AND skin a deer is some quick work. I’d love to see it done! Your suspicion might just be right. I’ve had the same suspicion a few times.

I used to slaughter up to 100 lambs in a normal working day, if that does not make for practice, I don’t know what will. lol.
