Hunters & Jerky
Posted by Darrell under: Rantings Of An Outdoorsman .
What is it about jerky? I love jerky! As a hunter, I’ve always loved jerkey. I’ve been eating it for years and I always love making my own venison jerky every year. Most of the hunters I know also love jerky. I’ve always thought of jerky as an outdoorsman food.
But, something weird is going on. Jerky seems to be going mainstream. Everywhere I look people are buying and eating jerky. Non-hunters all over the place are munching on jerky. Many of the local convenience stores have huge retail areas devoted to jerky. This is a good thing I think. Although, I can’t go into a convenience store anymore for a bottle of water without dropping $7. I always end up leaving with a bag of jerky!
Today, I grabbed a bag of Jalapeno Premium jerky while browsing (or should I say grazing) in Bass Pro Shops. This was some really good stuff! Five years ago, could you buy jerky in a dozen different flavors?
So, is it my imagination or is jerky becoming really popular? Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon (and possibly been shocked by it)?
One Comment so far...

My Dad lives near a grocery store called the Dublin General Store in Dublin, MI. They are famous for their jerkey. People come from a long ways away to buy some. They have a wide variety.
Check it out: http://www.dublinstore.com/
