2lb Test Line Lands 38lb King Salmon!
Posted by Darrell under: Rod & Reel; Alaska .
Soldotna Alaska angler, seventeen year old Lauren Olendorff, hooked and landed a 38lb King Salmon while fishing with a trout rod from her raft. I think you could call that a good day on the Kenai River. Lauren’s incredible experience is in stark contrast to my experience using light tackle (10lb test line) and hooking a big King Salmon. The big King stripped all the line from my reel on his third run. Too bad I didn’t have Lauren’s Finesse. The story (Two-pound test line lands a 38-pound king salmon) in the Anchorage Daily News ends by stating “Often, the angler who reels carefully prevails.” I guess careful isn’t in my bag of tricks……yet.
