I Made “PREFERRED” Status With Bass Pro Shops! - A Real Dream Come True

Posted by Darrell under: Rantings Of An Outdoorsman .

Not really (I mean the ‘dream’ part). It is true, Bass Pro Shops has bestowed upon me the honor of being a “preferred rewards” member. Just a few days ago my wife was thrilled to open my letter from Bass Pro informing me that I am now part of the top 10% of all Bass Pro Shops retail customers!

Just imagine how happy (and incredibly proud) this must have made my wife - to now know that her husband spends more at Bass Pro then 90% of their other customers. Wow! She was ecstatic. She now completely understands why I continue to refuse to spend any money on landscaping. Maybe, now, she can justify joining the top 10% of Bed, Bath, & Beyonds retail customers?

Seriously, though, I’m wondering if this really is ’an honor’. I mean, what do I really get by being an EXCLUSIVE member. For one, I will receive an EXCLUSIVE member card. Maybe it will allow me to impress the other Bass Pro customers that are watching me as I checkout in front of them? I can hear the murmurs now. “Wow, that guy is an exclusive member - he must be a really serious hunter or something” the people behind me in line will be whispering.

All I have to do to receive my membership card is to bring a ticket (that was mailed to me with the letter) in to the customer service counter on my next visit. Have they no shame whatsoever? They didn’t even bother to mail me my EXCLUSIVE card. They want me to come in to pick it up instead - obviously so I will buy something. But, isn’t it already a given that I’m going to buy something? Afterall, I’m in the top 10%. Come on, Bass Pro, give credit where credit is due. You don’t have to twist my arm to get me into the store. I’ll come willingly.

The additional benefits of my exclusive membership are:

  • Invitations to special Preferred Rewards events and sales for members only
  • Bonus Rewards Points promotions (hey, I like that)
  • Exclusive coupons and offers (I hate coupons)
  • Field-testing opportunities of the latest gear. Frequently, one member in each store location will be sent a new product to test and keep! (hum, I’m a member at their largest store and corporate headquarters - I wonder just how many field-testing opportunities I’ll be given. On the flip side, I’ll be doing plenty of field testing, the only draw back is I’ll be paying for everything I test!)
  • Advance notice of special sales (this way I can plan any hunting trips around them)
  • Other exciting promotions (what could be more exciting than being an EXCLUSIVE member?)

Here is the real kicker. All I have to do to remain eligible (I assume this means keep my status as an EXCLUSIVE member) is to spend a minimum of $1000 during 2008.  Since all my disposable income is spent evenly between Bass Pro Shops, Cabellas, and Ebay (the only one that doesn’t give me rewards points or make me feel special) spending the $1000 just might be attainable.

Now, the real question. What am I going to buy when I go in to pick up my Exclusive Membership card?
